Sport & other injuries
Runners, cyclists, walkers, and triathletes are among a long
list of people who have walked
through our door. They all share the same aim of wanting to get
back to their sport, whether
they be a serious athlete, or a keen amateur. It is crucial that
muscle injuries are properly
rehabilitated in order to avoid chronic muscle shortening and a
poorly aligned repair.
Peter Andrews, the Principal Osteopath, is able to draw on many
of the sports massage
techniques he used as a while practising as a Sports Massage
Practitioner before qualifying
as an osteopath. Restricted areas of the spine can lead to excess
mechanical forces being
placed upon certain other segments. Excessive scar tissue from old
injuries, such as
inversion ankle sprains or hamstring tears, can also lead to
abnormal movement patterns
and place excess strain. People whose everyday jobs involve a lot
of sitting down can find
that these flexed postures have resulted in a tightening in other
areas. For example,
computer work involves internal rotation of the shoulders and a
shortening of the pectoral
muscles, which is not what you need when you play racquet
sports!
At Sutton Osteopathy we can help at the early stages of injury,
as well as help with the
recovery of some of those old, niggling injuries. Our aim is to
get to the root of your problem
and get you back enjoying your activities, and getting all the
benefits of a more active lifestyle.
